Getting Ready For Our State Tournament

I hope everyone had a Happy Father's Day!

We had two tough losses this weekend, but the boys actually played MUCH better! It was obvious how much they have been practicing lately, because their defense has become smarter and stronger. Although, our hitting was a little off this weekend. Hitting has always been their strong point, but we had a lot of pop ups(that were caught) and grounders right to short or second. If we would have been hitting as strong as we have in passed games, we definitely would have won both games. At some point before All-Stars is over, we are going to click and have everything working together! We will be unstoppable then, because there is so much talent on our team!

Our next tournament is States, and it is in two weeks. When I have more information on this Tournament I will post it here.

Here are some action shots from this weekends games, again taken by Wendy Morrison. I REALLY appreciate her taking some great pictures for me to share with everyone on our blog.

Ready for anything!

The whole team is reacting and ready to make a play if they are needed!

Last minute advise before heading home to score!

Crack of the bat brings his friends home!

Yikes! Our catcher has to watch the baserunner, catch the ball and watch out for the Coach that is racing towards him!

Here comes the ball and we are ready to catch it!

I think the coach in this one is hoping that if he stands on top of the base and looks at it really hard his runner will make it back in time! : ) Serpentine boys!

He's out!

He's safe!

Last but not least, the 6U Hobgood Heat are playing in the Championship game for Districts June 19th, at 7:30 weather permitting at Hobgood ball fields. We are all going to go and support our Hobgood All-Stars! GO HEAT!

Thank you all again for your support, we had a very successful Spirit Day at Johnny's Pizza this past week!

Looking forward

Well, the great thing about All-Stars is that there is a new tournament and a new opportunity to start fresh every weekend! I have heard that little ball players learn more from losing then from winning. After this past weekend our boys should be much smarter!

Even through the rain, we still had some good hitting! Although, because of the rain and mud around the fields, we don't have many pictures. We even had a wonderful HOME RUN from Michael Buechner in our final game on Sunday! It was a very promising way to start our first at bat! Way to go Michael, and I don't think it will be your last one this summer!

I do have a couple of pictures that Wendy Morrison took last Thursday during a break in the rain before our second game of the night. I love the look on the boys faces as they look down to see the result! If you click on the pictures you can make them bigger, and can see more details.

Heads or Tails boys?

Luke is in the Official coin toss reading position! : )

Well, instead of a blow-by-blow of this weekend, I decided to focus on upcoming events. Starting with a great event this Tuesday, June 11th! Johnny's Pizza in Woodstock is hosting a 6U Hobgood Hurricanes day! It is another opportunity for you to get out and have a yummy easy meal with your family. All you have to do is go to the Johnny's Pizza location in Woodstock and tell them that you are there to support the 6U Hobgood Hurricanes and a portion of your bill will be donated to our team! It really is easy and you can dine in or carry out, it is up to you. Johnny's is also including all alcohol sales, but before you drink too much remember to let them know you are there for the 6U Hurricanes!

Next weekend you can find us at the 6U District 3 Tournament at Hobgood. We start this double elimination bracket this Friday at 6pm playing the Canton Stingers. The best thing about the last sentence is that it is "double elimination". Since this coming weekend is a single bracket for A,B and C teams, I see it as another "learning" weekend for the Hurricanes. Hopefully we can get at least three games in, but I would love more!

Thank you all for your support!

Going! Going! GONE!!!

This blog post is well named "Going! Going! GONE!!!", because after an hour of writing and editing, with a quick flash as I was typing, I some how hit select all and deleted the entire thing! Unfortunately it was also at that moment that my automatic save process flashed on the screen and everything was "GONE!"... BUT, like I am sure the Hurricanes would do, I am going to rally and try to remember everything that I had already written!

Ok, here it goes. We had another FUN weekend of baseball! Let me go back a little though to Wednesday and Thursday of last week. We had two back to back practices last week that focused mainly on DEFENSE! Our Coaches and Boys spent long hard hours running play after play on the field. The Canes will be a well oiled machine by the time this Summer is over. It is hard to believe that after this next weekend of baseball games, the boys will have already played almost as many baseball games as they did in the entire Spring Rec ball season!!

This past weekend we were at the Hobgood Summer Showdown. We started our pool play games on Saturday morning at 9am playing the East Cherokee Cobras, who are an A rated team. Since they were also the Champions of the Memorial Day Tournament last weekend, I have to admit I was expecting to have our boys be shutdown from the beginning. I was very surprised and hopeful when we were winning 7-0 after our first at bat. The Hurricane's hitting was on point, and also included an amazing GRANDSLAM from Dylan Mullen! It was so exciting to watch all the boys faces as they rounded the bases followed by a very happy and proud Dylan as he ran home and was attacked by all his friends. Great job Dylan! I can't wait to see you do it again soon! Even with the early lead and wonderful hitting and base running, we did not win this game. The final score was 16-24. The East Cherokee Cobras then went on to win the Championship for the second weekend in a row. Hopefully we will play them again this Summer, because I know we have the talent to beat this team!

We swear his teeth were like this when he got there.

Who wants to play another game? Good, because guess what... : )

Our next game started right after the first one on Saturday at 10:30am and we played the West Cobb Warriors. The boys showed no signs of being tired, I actually think that they were more awake! Again our hitting and smart base running was in full force. Cameron Novak was able to send the ball easily over the fence for a crowd cheering HOMERUN! Cameron was also attacked at home by a Hurricane of his friends! We were able to win this game 27-24! Bing Bang Boom, and we were done for the day before lunch time on Saturday. All we had to do now was enjoy the rest of the day and wait for our bracket results for our Sunday games.

You don't want to mess with our catcher, I dare you to make his day!

On Sunday we had our first game at 10:20am against the Central Park Braves. We had a much improvement defense on Sunday and we were able to pull out a win with the final score being 24-20! We were then advanced to the second round of bracket play and that game started at 2:20pm against the Rome Wolves. It turns out that the Rome Wolves were an A team with a very good defense. Even though our boys hit with great power, we still never were able to score in this game. We ended up losing 0-20. Even though it was disappointing to be put up against an A team of that caliber, I would love to play them again, but maybe next time just a scrimmage. : )

A little game huddle from a GREAT coach to help calm the troops!

If you happened to miss the excitement this weekend, we would love to have you come out and see us in action at our next Tournament! We play this coming week and weekend in the 2013 All-Star Showdown VII, which is played at six different parks. There will be 24 6U teams participating, so this will be a huge tournament. Our first game is on Wednesday night at 6pm against the Canton Noles at Barnett Park (field 3). This is the ballpark that is behind the Cherokee Red's field on Bells Ferry, down a long path in the woods. Be prepared to walk and pay a gate fee! It is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 9-12 and children 6 and under are free. Unfortunately, they do not offer any weekend pass prices. Although, I can guarantee you will get your money's worth from just watching one inning of our game, and we will even keep playing at NO extra charge! What a deal! Here is a breakdown of our whole pool play schedule for this weekend.

Wednesday @ 6:00PM (Barnett 3)
Canton Noles vs. Hobgood Hurricanes

Thursday @ 6:00PM (JJ Biello 2)
Hobgood Hurricanes vs. Oregon Park Sharks

Saturday @ 12:30PM (JJ Biello 2)
Hunter Park All-Stars vs. Hobgood Hurricanes
*there is a gate fee at all of these events*

And last but not least we are having another great Hurricane spirit day at Johnny's New York Pizza in Woodstock on Tuesday, June 11, 2013! This is such a great way for you to have a yummy meal and still be supporting your favorite Hurricane 6U team! Again, all you have to do is take the family to Johnny's Pizza in Woodstock and tell them that you are there to support 6U Hobgood Hurricanes and our team will receive a portion of the profits for their whole day!

Well, that last paragraph was almost last. I also want to give a HUGE thank you to Wendy Morrison! She is an amazing Mom of 5 kids and the ace photographer for this weeks Blog post! She is able to watch her kids with one eye and focus her camera with the other! Thank you so much, the pictures were fantastic! I really love the team huddle!

Thank you all for your support!
