Canyons Burger Spirit Day!

Just a quick Thank You to everyone who helped to make our Canyons Burger spirit day a great success! Here are a few pictures that were taken last night of some of the boys enjoying a yummy meal after practice!





Also, here is a preview of the new team banner that was done by samXart. This is the banner that we will have hanging on our dugout at all our tournaments this summer. I am pretty sure if any of the other teams see it, they will just forfeit in fear!



If anyone wants to see the banner in person, it will be with us this weekend at the Hobgood Summer Showdown! We will be playing the East Cherokee Cobras at 9am on field 7 and at 10:30am on field 7 we will be playing the West Cobb Warriors.

Canes 2013 Memorial Day Warm-Up

What a GREAT weekend for Hurricane baseball! The Hurricane's were in their first tournament this weekend, we were at the 2013 Memorial Day Warm-Up B/C All-Star Tournament at Hobgood Ball Park. We started our Tournament out Friday night playing the Central Park Braves. The Hurricanes were AMAZING! We had hot bats and great defense and won that game 18-2. Then after a much needed rest we started out our Saturday with a nice cool game between the Shaw Park Outlaws. Again, we brought our A game, and had excellent defense and were rounding the bases at such a steady pace that we made our third base coach's arm sore from sending everyone HOME! We won our second game 18-3. If you are counting, so far we have allowed the other teams to score only a total of 5 runs! We were thrilled to miss the hot afternoon sun Saturday and not play again until 6pm. We played our third game against the Macedonia Mustangs Blue and enjoyed another win with the score ending 26-11. What a great day of baseball!

We played so well Friday and Saturday that we earned ourselves the #1 position in the Gold Bracket for Sunday. That is very impressive for our first tournament. That means we were the top rated team out of 10 different teams. We had a 1:30pm game against the Canton Noles, only to lose 31-16. One game out from the championship game made the loss a little bittersweet, but all in all this weekend really fired us up for some more exciting summer ball games!

Next week we will be at the Hobgood Summer Showdown and it looks like we are going to start with a real pressure cooker by playing the East Cherokee Cobras(the Champs from the Memorial Day Tournament) at 9am Saturday morning and then immediately following at 10:30 we play the West Cobb Warriors. I have faith that our boys can win both of these games!

SMILE!

No practice this weekend, leaving our little athletes time to be models. Instead of practice the Hurricanes had pictures taken for their team banner. With great excitement and shiny clean uniforms we headed to the muddy 12U field at Hobgood. When it was finally our turn, our boys were able to get their pictures taken in their now somewhat clean uniforms. Although, the mud didn't effect their intimidating game faces, and I am sure their banner is going to look amazing! I took a few (frowned upon by the photographer) shots of the boys in the crowd to add to the blog.

Hurricanes scrimmage the Storm!

I hope everyone had a Happy Mother's Day yesterday! It was a big REC weekend for baseball, and now we are in the home stretch to the final games. Good luck to all the boys, and don't forget to have FUN! I found a baseball quote that is so true for this particular week for a lot of baseball parents.

On the Hurricane home front, we had a scrimmage Saturday night against another one of the Hobgood All Star teams. The Hurricanes and the Storm hooked up (with a rain delay, appropriately enough) to play several innings AFTER all the REC games had concluded. It was the first time we were able to play a real game against real competition. It was exciting to see the potential of this team!







The Hurricane coaches made the most of every opportunity to "coach up" the kids during the game. I think it's safe to say that the 'Canes will be aggressive on the base paths this season, which is a must when you're playing top teams throughout the state. All of the kids had good hits, and got to play different positions on the field. Buechner made a spectacular diving catch on the very first batter!!



Several kids had just finished playing their REC games for the day when the scrimmage started, so they really had to fight through the exhaustion and keep up their focus. That is great experience for the All Star games this Summer, when it's hot and the kids have to play multiple games in a single day.







As a parent, I'm encouraged to see how much fun these kids are having before and after the practices. It's nice to see them making instant friends and enjoying finding "roly polys" out in the dirt down the 3rd base line. It's going to be a serious time for baseball this Summer, with wins and losses and laughter and tears. They will be making great memories.

The Hurricanes work, while their opponents play in the rain

The Hurricane team is off to a GREAT start! Because of all the rain this weekend, all Rec. team games were cancelled. Although, as you all know, a little rain never stopped a Hurricane! That is why we practiced at the indoor Fury Baseball complex in Woodstock.


These three ballplayers are relaxing after a 45min strength and agility session! Great Job Boys!!


We are not just AWESOME ballplayers, we also can balance things with great ease!


This takes great concentration, so that you don't end up twisted like a pretzel on the ground! Great Job Cameron!


We will be able to use this little maneuver when we are jumping over hard hit line drives, while we are rounding the bases!

The team already had a speed and agility class at Fury earlier this week. The staff is extremely focused and professional. I'm sure the kids have been sleeping well this week!
